Our comprehensive careers curriculum develops well-rounded individuals equipped with the skills, knowledge and attributes necessary to excel in the real world and make informed decisions about post-16 and post-18 education, and achieve aspirational professional career goals.

Mr Trickett, Director of Personal Development

We know just how important your time at Sixth Form with us is as a stepping-stone to your future, and we are immensely proud of the support, guidance and opportunities that we offer.  The experiences, skills and knowledge you gain here at St Mary’s will help you to achieve the happy and fulfilling career that you aspire to.

At St Mary’s, we are proud of our Careers Programme, and our performance against the Gatsby Benchmarks shows that we are right to be so.  Our comprehensive careers curriculum develops well-rounded individuals equipped with the skills, knowledge and attributes necessary to excel in the real world and make informed decisions about post-16 and post-18 education, and achieve aspirational professional career goals.

Through a programme of trips, workshops and visiting speakers, and a week of work-experience, you will learn all about the opportunities available to you, and we will support you every step of the way towards achieving these.  We treat each individual as an individual, offering personalised support to you in finding the subject, degree or apprenticeship that is right for you

Support for Parents and Guardians

Parents are invited in April to our Post-18 Information Evening, which has been described as “very interesting and engaging” and as “excellent…the best I have been to.  Brilliant speakers, right level of info, right amount of time.” Resources are shared directly with parents after the event, and can be accessed at a later date.

You will also find our Post-18 Information Booklet full of useful information – it can be accessed here. Each Sixth Form student is given a copy of this booklet.

What is the St Mary's Careers Programme

Careers, post-18 and financial education is delivered by experienced Sixth Form Tutors over the course of Year 12 and Year 13, but we kick things off very early on your sixth form journey with a visit to the higher education and apprenticeship fair at Elland Road, where you can meet and talk to a huge range of people, companies and universities to get excited and inspired about your next steps. However, things really get going after Easter in Year 12.  We will have visiting speakers and workshops, a number of days off timetable, another HE Fair and a week of work experience.  It’s this comprehensive and bespoke programme that explains why our destinations data is so amazing and our students go on to do such inspiring and fulfilling courses and careers – you can read more about it in our Careers policy in the policies section..
